A Global Learning Circle was launched at a dinner following the successful RC-2020 Global Forum.

The Global Learning Circle, will link students and teachers from participating RC-2020 institutions across the world, with clear goals to economic renewal through vocational education and training.

Members, students and staff will share their knowledge and experience, learn new information, apply and test new skills.

Key features include:

  • The learning circle can operate in many formats including a series of discussions, demonstrations, reports on readings and presentations.  Members will be encouraged to share their knowledge and experience, learn new information and apply and test new skills.
  • Learning circles will meet to examine a common issue or body of knowledge.  After some initial planning, the group schedules a series of meetings with a specific set of goals.
  • Ongoing exchange can occur through LinkedIn, email, video and telephone conferences and face to face meetings.
  • Learning circles can include workshops where members come together to share research with each other.

The concept of a Learning Circle is founded in Aboriginal Indigenous cultures, both in Australia and in North America, where knowledge has been handed down by Elders to enable social and cultural change.

Learning Circles empower their members to make choices and take action.

Partnership lays foundations for a better, more sustainable building industry

TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute Director, David Riordan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) peak built environment industry body, Building Designers Australia (BDA) NSW last week.

Mr Riordan said the MOU signing exemplified the Institute’s Future Directions strategic plan.

“Sydney Institute’s strategic plan provides the road map into a more competitive, dynamic and consumer and consumer-driven environment.

“Our business is about helping students achieve their goals.

“This MOU signifies an exciting partnership between the BDA and Sydney Institute.

“The MOU provides a framework for us to work together to strengthen a training culture and design learning pathways which will consolidate business sustainability for BDA NSW’s 400 members,” Mr Riordan said.

“As one of Australia’s largest and most innovative education and training providers, TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute is a natural fit to promote building design as a recognised career path within the construction industry and deliver a high standard of education to current and entry level building designers.
